2020 Earth and Space Science Home Page

Students in Earth and Space Science will investigate key concepts for the earth and space sciences. There are three disciplinary core ideas for the earth and space sciences:

  1. Earth's Place in the Universe
  2. Earth's Systems
  3. Earth and Human Activity

The performance expectations for high school Earth and Space Science blend core ideas with scientific and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts to support students in developing usable knowledge that can be applied across the science disciplines. The order of the standards at any grade level is not meant to imply a sequence of topics and should be considered flexible for the organization of any course.

Vertical Learning Progressions

Descriptions of disciplinary core ideas, crosscutting concepts, and science and engineering practices students are learning throughout their K-12 education.

Sample Unit Progressions

**New**

This year-long progression provides a sample vision for engaging students in meaningful, connected science learning. Unit samples offer examples of essential questions, phenomena, connections to prior learning, and a 3-dimensional narrative for what learning might look like in the classroom.

Bundled Standards Analysis

A list of Earth and Space Science standards and examples of how to group them based on common science ideas. Analysis is provided for each grouping of standards and is provided in a manner to support deep understanding of goals and expectations for the teacher and student. Recommendations are not intended to be an exhaustive listing of instructional possibilities.

Engagement Strategies

Suggested instructional practices that engage students with figuring out science ideas.
