Students in Physics I will investigate key concepts for the physical sciences. There are four disciplinary core ideas for the physical sciences:
- Matter and Its Interactions
- Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions
- Energy
- Waves and Their Applications in Technologies for Information Transfer
The performance expectations for high school Physics I blend the core ideas with scientific and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts to support students in developing usable knowledge that can be applied across the science disciplines. The order of the standards at any grade level is not meant to imply a sequence of topics and should be considered flexible for the organization of any course.

This year-long progression provides a sample vision for engaging students in meaningful, connected science learning. Unit samples offer examples of essential questions, phenomena, connections to prior learning, and a 3-dimensional narrative for what learning might look like in the classroom.
