An Introduction to Physical Science

Students in Physical Science will investigate key concepts for the physical sciences. There are four disciplinary core ideas for the physical sciences :

  1. Matter and Its Interactions
  2. Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions
  3. Energy
  4. Waves and Their Applications in Technologies for Information Transfer

The performances expectations for high school physical science blend the core ideas with scientific and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts to support students in developing usable knowledge that can be applied across the science disciplines.

3-Dimensional Science Vertical Learning Progressions

Descriptions of disciplinary core ideas, crosscutting concepts, and science and engineering practices students are learning throughout their K-12 education.

Bundled Standards Analysis

Examples of how to group standards based on common science ideas. Analysis is provided for each grouping of standards and is provided in a manner to support deep understanding of goals and expectations for the teacher and student. Recommendations are not intended to be an exhaustive listing of instructional possibilities.
